Is a gold plated scart lead really better?

I received my shiny new Samsung LE26R74BD TV today, and I really like it. When I have my Sky + box plugged into it, using a bog standard free scart lead the picture is grainy, if I bought a gold plated or high quality scart would the picture be better? I thought I would see a big difference in picture. Can anyone recommend a good one? I am currently writing this using it as my monitor connected via VGA and the picture is amazing, and HD video clips I have played are very good quality!

Its unlikely that another lead will make any difference. I would expect the image to be a bit off if you are trying to connect an SD interlaced video source to a TFT monitor like that, its not really a suitable display for this purpose. As you have found it looks very good when fed with a more compatible video feed :)

It's not a TFT monitor, it's a HD LCD TV

An "HD LCD TV" is a TFT monitor with a video processor and a TV tuner bundled into one package. You will not achieve a good quality of image from an interlaced video source. :) Or perhaps i should say that you wont, without the aid of an external video processor/de-interlacing/scaling device.

Do you have your SKY+ STB's output set to RGB, that makes quite a difference in picture quality for me, Although I have a HD Plasma, which are a lot more forgiving of SD Sources.

The freebee scarts bundled with anything can be thrown away in my opinion - dont sully your new purchases with them.

I have always bought IXOS cables ( from £20 - £50 for decent scart cables) and they are worth every penny

Yes LCD / Hdtv's arent going to show a standard dvd player / sky + / vhs player in their best light due to the very nature of the tv , however in my opinion you will actually fair ok as the size of your screen wont show up too much problems (its the larger 40" + screens that really show Sky transmissions etc to be as bad as they are, and vhs tape etc)

There are even scart to componant cables I believe which might be better - as I dont think sky+ has componant out (but not being a subscriber I dont know for sure) but a decent scart cable is a must

Yeah I've been looking at the IXOS range of scarts, think i'll buy the XHT601, and see what happens. Also, the analogue channels through the built in TV tuner on the TV are very very clear so I presume it is the scart.
