Is a Seasonic S12 500W PSU able to run an X1900XT?

I have read that these card need a 580W PSU or better. This bothers me as my PSU isnt very old at all and Im thinking about getting a new graphics card.

Your PSU will be fine

You should be ok - just dont attempt crossfire

but keep an eye out as my 480w Tagan isnt completely stable which is why I got a 700w Epsilon

If that is the case then it looks like there could be a common issue between the required power of PSU's and graphics cards. As they tend to have more ram on them with special anti-heat devices, it seems to need more power than you would ever seem to think would be required.

Not just on the ATI side here, but with the latest Nvidia cards as well, as for example I have a GS+ 512mb and im not sure if my Tagan 480w is completly upto the job with a few recent comments that have been made.

580W or better? I've got a Seasonic S12 600W and am currently in the process of getting the same graphics card. I'm hoping 600W will be fine as I have a fair few hard drives and other PCI cards in my system. =/

Edit: Oh and your sig states a "Seagate" PSU as opposed to "Seasonic". :p

Mixed opinions I see. I guess I'll just have to buy one and hope for the best.

I hadnt heard about the "anti - heat" devices but I strongly agree with your point.

But enough times I have been shot down on here - I have lost count

I also believe its dependant on the mobo also

I had an 1900XT running on a DFI Ultra D and it seemed stable and reliable - I changed over to an Abit Xfire board and became unreliable even though there was nothing out of place or badly seated etc - so I think the choice of mobo has an affect too
