Is anyone else really annoyed by the video adverts on web pages?

They make my blood boil.

Why? Well I get a screaming audio just for going to the page without chance to push mute. Secondly their advert is coming out of my download quota (20GB/month). This is with an advert blocker on..

With the expected new arrival of 50 frames/sec Microsoft explorer in the future I can only see that web pages are going to become like attempting to find the valuable content in an arabic tourist market (anyone been to egypt recently will understand).. that's all we need to feed the advert monster that attempting to dominate your attention so their adverts are seen.
If you're like me, if you hear audio on a webpage you hit the back button, or you've come so accustom to avoiding adverts by blanking the advert mentally that I don't even remember the advert after clicking past it.

So the ISPs are really going to love each webpage you visit streaming video advert content too. So have to pay the ISP and the 'ether' because of the wasted carbon foot print for the advert..

This may be spam.. but my blood is boiling and in true OcUK style you'll all know about it :p

What? you still get adverts?
Don't think I've seen one of them for a few months.

In fact the only place I think I ever see adverts is embedded into Windows Live Messenger.

Adblock Plus please.

Video adverts aren't really a problem for me, because I've not often come across ones that play with audio unless you click on them. The most annoying adverts for me are those ones which replace the current page you're browsing with another one with a skip button at the top.

I don't like video adverts much but the most annoying are the video adverts that are put at a random point roughly halfway down the page so you've got to search for them before you can stop them. At least if they're top left or top right I can spot them quickly to mute/pause them.

Evidently reading is not a strong point for people on forums.

Actually I did read that.

If he is getting adverts still, then his adblocker clearly isnt very good,
hence the adblock plus recommendation.
Though I guess I should have made that more clear.

(Cheers for the Apatch link)

I feel your pain, it got to the point between ads and flash sites with music playing i download an add-on for firefox called Flashblock, now, i have to click the flash object before it can play.
Now i don't have any rubbish music blasting out of my speakers late at night while i scramble to figure out what tab its coming from.
You can also whitelist sites like iplayer and youtube if you want too, or even block others entirely (like adblock) its a very handy little add-on.

They are particularly annoying on a mobile broadband connection with limited download allowance.
Video adverts, **** off!

I've always hated intrusive adverts, they are just hideously annoying now.
The worst I have seen was many years back on the ITV/F1 forums. There was an advert for an F1 game on the PS2, loaded every time you opened a new thread. Played the audio each time... Forum, ruined.

Couldn't agree more nickK. I have all normal adds and pop-ups blocked but occasionally I open a page and the music blast out with video at top volume, never know which to hit first. Back button, manual volume control on desk, or look for the video to stop it.. :D

megavideo had a beeping one about 6 months ago that you just couldn't turn off.

video i can stand, audio with that video gets me raging, o and those stupid hover over audio adverts grrrrrrr
