+1 Motability Scheme - bare in mind it's the largest purchaser/lease company in the UK - so any firm with a new design wanting to flood the roads will offer their entry level vehicles with £0 initial deposit and for the higher spec (Tekna +2) being a very reasonable £450 for 3 years worth of worry-free motoring. Another popular (albeit dearer) choice seems to be the Hyundai Santa Fe and the KIA Sportage (poor people's Range Rovers!)
Volvo did a similar thng with the release of the XC60 - D5 R-Design SE 2 years ago was £950 advance payment, when I needed to replace my S40 1.6 R-Design with a larger automatic, I wanted the above XC60, but the AP had risen to £7995!!! So I went for the 2.0l (167) Galaxy Ti X Auto, for £2700.
Without the Motability scheme, many people would not be able to afford to be on the road, with a reliable car. Bare in mind their Disability Living Allowance (Mobility) at £220 per month covers the lease of the car, all service costs, fully comp insurance for 2 named drivers, tyres and top-ups at Kwik-Fit AND tax.
There's no way I'd be driving a £45,000 motor without the scheme - it's brilliant. And now they've capped the AP at £2000 and limited drivers to those living within 5 miles of the keeper, it reduces those abusing the system by using Nana's mobility allowance to fund the Range Rovers & Q7s...
