Is Grand Theft Auto 4 worth continuing with.

Final mission involves a helicopter chase after a 10min road chase and 5min shootout. How much helicopter experience do I have? About 5mins in a previous early mission which results in "how do I fly this thing again" before a "Lalala got away" or smashing the helicopter into an endless supply of skyscrapers, between which, you take the controls. I've taken the disc out and put it back in the case before I smash my keyboard against the wall.

ive had it since it was released, never bothered doin the missions as they bored me, bt the multiplayer mode is great, no matter what day ive had at work , half an hour shooting and mowing people down i laughin away lol, great fun and great visuals

This.

It was more fun driving around the city than actually playing the game. Missions were appalling and I had one game-breaking bug in the end which prevented me from completing.

The helicopter "mash X" bug? I had that one too. To this day I haven't completed the game because of it.

I enjoyed all of the GTA's, I think San Andreas was my favourite for game play though.

GTA 4 was good, although I think they tried a little too much and as a result the game ran poorly on console and pretty badly on PC.

I recently bought this I heard it was bad but had no idea, now I know.

The driving is awful they expect you to chase and be chased when its hard enough getting round corners in one piece.

The missions are tedious and frustrating. They expect you to kill everyone in an entire building then kill all the cops then escape, without any checkpoints. Bad guys hide in cover perfectly they just stick there arms out to shoot you so how are you supposed to shoot them(you have no nades), especially when you've got a time limit because the guys you are supposed to be killing are getting away.

The help is useless. A simple text box in the corner from the original game, which dissapears never to return so some mechanics you forget because everything is so complex, and theres no way of finding out.

Why is it you have a choice is some missions and not others(the choice is meaningless anyway)?

Why does everything go black and white or should I say grey and black.

One saving grace the cutscenes, some of them are funny but its like tourettes, their funny to start with but you begin to see the pattern.

Niko is a confused, contradictory, idiot, at least according to the missions.

You have stupid friends that keep calling you up and you just drive them somewhere then drive them back sometimes, its like the developers are just trying to mess with you.

Why didnt they stick to making it a movie, its what they seem to want to be making as there does not appear to be much of a game.

So does anything improve as you go along, or what fun is there to do(tanks and things)?

No, it's a mess.

Try Mafia II if you haven't already, the Collectors Edition is cheap

Mafia II has had some loving for the PC version, whereas GTA 4 is like an abandoned child.

Mafia II = Better in every area (except acting perhaps)

As for the "black and white" thing, I'm glad you brought that up.

I have *no* idea why at many times of day the game becomes greyscale. You literally cannot see colours at all.

I'm not sure what effect the game was going for, especially because it can happen in what appears to be the middle of the day...

The next GTA should be a lot better. I think the reason it was lacking in some ways is because they were building a new engine as well as the game. As the engine is there its just a matter of building the map which will give then more time to add in extra features.

I dont think they have built a new engine though. GTA IV has elements from the first which indicates they copy and pasted code, or just bolted on the new graphics. Like the menu system and the popups which is no help at all.

They were trying to make it immersive so why didnt they put the map on your phone like an iphone app or something and just keep all the menus within the phone.

Anyway, I guess thats enough complaining, its not brilliant but its not bad.

GTA 4 is awful on the PC, a 7yr old console runs it better(and plays better).

Hardly, just put the graphics settings on medium they still look way better than the console. If every setting is on high then it will stutter but it is possible to get smooth game play with decent graphics settings. They could have done a much better job with it though.
