Is Hayes, Greater London a dodgy place?

I work on Pump Lane, a few hundred yards from Hayes high street. Not a particularly nice town, also people seem to ignore traffic signals and road marking more that other places..

I live near Hayes (towards Uxbridge), Hayes is abit of a s##t hole. I certainly wouldn't move there.

And if you visit the woolpack don't forget your pound coins ;)

How come canary wharf/isle of dogs area is so cheap for its distance, compared to similarly distanced areas? is it a pain to travel to/from?

You have the main west london road called uxbridge road which starts from shepherds bush/whitecity and ends at uxbridge. Two main buses are 207 and 607(express bus stopping at only few stops).

Uxbridge road starts from shepherds bush/white city, passes through acton, ealing common, ealing broadway, west ealing, hanwell, ealing hospital, southall, hayes, hillingdon (Brunel University) and finally onto uxbridge.

Hayes situates between southall (predominantly south asian) and uxbridge (predominantly white).

I would suggest to Op to visit southall broadway actually. It is always very vibrant and he will get to experience indian subcontinent culture. Might aswell see many nice asian girls dressed in pretty indian/pakistani/bengladeshi costumes ;).

Hayes in my opinion is actually better than Acton area. However if OP is worried about other 'ethnicites';), then I would suggest he lives close to hillingdon towards uxbridge which is next to hayes.

Btw Hayes isn't in greater london but in west london.

Hayes is a decent enough place. Certainly safer than many parts of inner London.

Quite cultured as well. Golf clubs, football clubs, cricket grounds, botanic gardens, open air theatres. You'll always have something to do!

And if (like most men), you like military planes and thingies, RAF Northolt is only up the road for a spot of Eurofighter spotting.

OP Sorry for thread hijack - whats Welling like? I am thinking of moving there but don't know anything about the area.

I lived nearby in West Drayton for a year, didn't encounter any problems. Inexpensive and short journey into Stockley Park too.

Ealing is better though if you have the money to spend.

I considered Hayes when I was in the area but didn't feel particularly happy or comfortable with the area or the flats I viewed, so eventually moved into a place in West Drayton while I was working in Stockley Park.

If I was looking around that area again, i'd probably go to Uxbridge. The rent around there generally isn't too high, and it's got a nice enough town center, decent pubs, restaurants, cinema and handy having access to the underground as well.

Yeah uxbridge is nice area and very close to brunel university. Brings back many memories as I went to uxbridge college more than 12 years ago.
