I've always used duct.

Isn't Duck tape the make and Duct the type. I've definitely seen "Duck" on the packaging of Duct tape.

Duct tape, but there is a brand of Duct Tape called Duck Tape, so both are technically correct, just use the first one to refer to generic Duct tape

Well I bought some Duck Tape from Homebase, it was a brand of Duct Tape. I guess either should work.
