is it ignorant...

Nope - I usually either say 'Hello' in a variety of ways, 'Yep', 'Speak' or 'Go'. Depending on who it is or what mood I'm in. Rarely use the other person's name.

Behave. If someone said Speak or Go when I call them I'd ask them if they think their talking to their dog or servant?

if its someone i want to talk to then an appropriate greeting is prepared when i see their mug come up on my screen. If its my brother this is usually "what do you want lady parts" if its the wife its "alright babe", if its one of my friends its "maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttteeeeeeeeeeeee", if its another its "what is up bredbin/homie". If it dont want to talk to them then its just "hello?"

I work on the basis that they called me, so probably know who i am. If i'm not the right person i've found it tends to get resolved fairly quickly and doesn't warrant extra greeting dialogue which would be useless 99% of the time.

If the work phone rings however it is ALWAYS "CNBC TX" when I answer. Gotsta be good at work.

Being 82 my granddad just has fun with it. Often you'll get "Bexley hospital for the slightly opaque" "Sids Cafe" "Saggy Boobs retirement home" etc.

Answer by usually saying the following:

Now then
Alright Mate
Whats up?
Hi Darling (for gf)

I just dont answer calls I don't recognise...if they want me they will leave a message

to not say hi or hello [insert name of person here] when answering your mobile phone, as 99% of the time, the name of the person is displayed when it is ringing

i will always say hello [insert name of person here] a few of my friends just say hello though, which i think is a tad ignorant

You know who's ringing you by the caller ID and they know that you know who's ringing them and they do not need reminding of their name. Infact the more i think about it the more i think that saying their name is wrong ( to Friends ). What are you trying to prove? That with your master phone receiving skills you know who is ringing you and to prove it you will say their name every time they call you?
