I just use Hello. I might be wrong but people seem to have been using this word as a greeting for quite a while now.

There's nothing wrong with just answering with a Hello. People who say there is are probably too fond of hearing their own name

If anything I would rather somebody picked up the phone to me and didn't say my name. Caller ID or not, it seems creepy to do that before I introduce myself.

I always answer hello unless:

A) I can't see my phone screen (in case it's work or someone I don't know)

B) As if it's work I have to answer my name incase they're trying to get hold of me for a 999 call

If i'm on call for 999s if it comes up as Unknown Number so I just answer RC188, which is my call sign. This is untill I get an Airwave handset anyway.
