is it ignorant...

I just answer with "speak"...

Haha a mate of mine from uni used to do that, personally I found it more hilarous than ignorant.

I dont normally answer with people names, its usually "hey man" "alreet mate" or something along the lines of that. Cant see the point in saying "hey pete" when he knows fine well his name will flash up on my phone anyways.

I'm not customer facing @ work and answer the phone in the same way as answering my personal phone:
"Hiya".

or

"Hellooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" if it's the young chick who is in my office and she calls me internally.

or

"whatdyawant???" if it's the 50 bazilllionth time someone has called me. Normally Gary from accounts.

Just to add: the few times I have answered an external call at work, it's done all proper like:

Good morning/afternoon [Company Name], [Name] speaking, how can I help?

Sometimes [Company name], [Name] Speaking.

I was working at a guys house last week and every time he picked up the phone he would rattle off his telephone number...wtf? Ive never encountered this before and found it very strange. They obviously know your number, they have just rung it .

if i ring someone, and they know it's me, as it's displayed on their mobile, i don't think it's too much to expect them to say my name when they answer, i do it when people ring me

At work it's "Good morning [shop name]".
My own phone I just say hello.
When I'm calling suppliers at work it's "Hi it's Jonny from [business name]"

I HATE calls that just ask for a person without saying who they are :@
