I will be getting W7 ultimate when released and I already have vista 64 ultimate on my PC.
But will it be okay to istall it over vista.
I don't want to do a fresh install as my second HDD has all my games and mods on there.I know it's better to do a fresh install but if I do a fresh install won't I have to re-install everything on both HDD's due to the registry entries?
Thanks.

depends, some games work fine. others do. I recommend you just do a fresh install though, overall it would be better... even if some of your games may play silly buggers..

It's probably worth doing a fresh build in any case. I upgraded my work machine from Vista Enterprise to W7 Enterprise RTM and whereas it were fine, it was just as slow as Vista was (Aged install, suffering from usual Windows bloat). Also used a boatload of HDD space for the process.

I did a wipe 2 days later and put W7 back on - its great now.

I've since wiped my home machine and put W7 64bit on. Again, its hassle but the best way to do it in my opinion.

If you install w7 over vista, it warns you then installs it onto the windows folder but moves the contents to another folder along with the user folders. Im 99% sure this is the case, anyone refute or confirm this?

This should help.

Yes, iirc, it should move everything to a 'Windows.old' folder on the root of the C: drive :)
