Is it possible for a fax to not interfere with voice calls?

Ive just bought a new all in one printer with a fax, but I bought it for the document feeder and not the fax. Im guess the fax is a tad outdated now and not worth bothering with, but I was going to connected up just in case. But going by the manual I might have more trouble then whats its worth by connecting it up, as I have a 2nd phone socket in a diff room, and connecting the fax might mess that phone up?

Probably the only problem likely to occur is it answers a voice call rather than the phone.
A while since I setup a fax machine but I think most can be set either to auto-answer or manual answer where you effectively press a button for it to answer.
It shouldn't cause problems with outgoing calls at all as far as I know.

Ah thanks, so if its on manual, the fax wont come on at all, without you pressing a button and the phone in the other room will work as normal?

It seems stupid that you cant have a automatic document feeder without a fax with all in one printers
