Is it possible to furnish a house with 2k?

You live in colchester yeah? Email in trust moving in with mother in law for 6 months. Double bed, dish washer and coffee table all looking for a new home at the start of Feb.

get a new matress and cooking stuff then the rest you can easily get from charity shops and local "*****" places.

yep - ikea/argos is your friend!

its poss.... DFS sofa- £300, Argos tv £300, Argos fridge freezer £300, bed man £100.

i got my sofa free off a friend but it is possible as i got mine done for about £7k and that included new kitchen floor, central heating (over £2k!) and everything as it had nothing (not even a shelf!)but holes lol.

How do you find out about local auctions? I'm in a similar situation to the OP, and it sounds potentially like a good idea. Also would I be right in thinking if you win it, you typically have to take it away on the day?

In my case the local livestock market has a monthly bankrupcy/ graded goods auction every month. Google them for starters.

Local papers too. It can be hit and miss. I was lucky they had about 30 sofas for sale and nobody wanted the purple ones. My other half reminded me I actually got them for £100 for the pair! It was the 2nd lot sold and although I had my eye on some nicer ones, you just couldn;t let a bargain go by. The big 4 seater only just fitted and I had to take the front door off!

Oh and it varies. With my local one on a Saturday you have until Monday pm to remove your items.

I'm sure you can but expect to have real tatty stuff. We've slowly been kitting out our house the past year and the expenses are horrendous.

Not really. Furniture depreciates so quickly. Like I have said, you can get very decent sofas, hardly used for under £100 from Ebay, gumtree which cost hundreds when new a few years ago. We even once got a 8 foot solid oak, hand carved dining table and chairs for £300.

It only costs lots of money if you are buying new/antique.

easy ,just had a bathroom fitted for under £500 inc labour ,the living room was maybe £50 for paint and a feature wall papering ,£500 for a new 80/20 wool carpet ,even the panasonic g20 42inch and rest of the house bits and bats kept it under 2k edit: and a very slightly used 3 piece suite included
