Having made a Intel system every 3 or so years for the last 20 years is now the time for an AMD build ? Will be using for Gaming with warzone and BF6.

Is the latest Intel still worth looking at ?

What is the best high end rizen chip to go for ?

Ryzen 9 5900X?

Nope, unless you just want to make the best room heater.

For gaming there's no sense in going over 12 core, unless you run some really heavy background tasks.
Actually for older and average games 6 core would be equally fast.
And there are only few games capable to pushing 8 core to full 100% load even if having strong enough GPU for it to not bottleneck at used resolution/settings.

Thanks chaps. I appreciate a lot of motherboards out there but any recommendations welcome
Do you want plenty of room for PCIe v4 NVMes, or are you planning to stay in bang per buck PCIe v3 drivers?

X570 is the only all PCIe v4 desktop platform and can easily take three NVMes with four lanes for each without disabling anything else on board.
B550 can take only one PCIe v4 drive into CPU connected slot with chipset being PCIe v3 and with less lanes.

Agreed the 5800x is the best bet to also include a bit of 'future proofing' built in.
That future proofness extra room of 8 cores is really short for absolute top CPU requirements games...
Cyberpunk's fps minimums scale until 12 cores.

I see, I will be looking at getting a pci v4 nve. As they seem so damn quick

My build (in sig) might be up your street. Motherboard has been great. 2 x NVMe drives have been running fine and the CPU is great. Overall I have a rapid machine and I haven't really put much stress on it outside of benchmarks.

I think in the 10 months since building my rig there will likely be better NVMe drives. I'd also say get a better air cooler than the Dark Rock Slim.

If your not in a hurry to upgrade then maybe consider waiting a month or so till the Intel 12 gen Alder lake drops, a leaked gaming benchmark showed it comfortably beating zen 3 which will likely be headed for some price cuts.
