Well......

Been building PC's and gaming for 5 or so years now, but lately I have lost the buzz and spend more time downloading stuff, watching DVD's or reading stuff on here :) added to the fact that I have to smashing baby son's to entertain me now...ahhhh

I have (what I class) a good spec'd system (in sig) and I don't really get the use out of it now for the past few months, so I'm thinking of selling the lot and hopefully getting £600/£700 together and buying a Macbook?

I have played with one before and the build quality is fantastic, never had one of my own to use on a daily basis though....

Really not sure what to do but the longer I leave it the less I will get for my current setup and therefore less I can spend on a MB :(

If gaming is dead for me will the Macbook make a good unit for general day to day stuff as mentioned above i.e surfing (wireless) converting and burning DVD creating documents? Seen some nice one's on flea bay for £600 or there abouts....

Manythanks :D

p.s. I did call Apple before and the sales guy said he would throw in an Ipod as well which I thought would be nice but that may have been a one off or a promotion so I would have to call again and see?

Is RAM cheap for the Macbooks?

I see OcUK sell 2gb upgrades....

I'm just worried that I won't get on with the operating system :(

But as you have said and others too the OS is very good....

edit: I'm also a part time student at college so would I get any discount if I went direct?? Thanks

I've made my decision I'm going to break my PC down and sell it all off and get a Macbook (white) 13" screen :D

I have an old Dell GX280 at work I can use as I downloading and file server :)

Thanks for the post guys ;)

I'd like to but that may form a fair chunk of the funds to purchase the Macbook I think..

I get 12.5% discount at Johnlewis and you get 2 years free warranty too BUT they have Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger which is pants really as I would want Leopard :( may give them a call and see what they can do..

Well JL's just said that they would knock £30 off the order for selling it with Tiger?

I purchased Leopard to build my boss's MB the other week and Apple charged him £80 for that? So it's not much of a saving really... I will call Apple direct and see what they have to say...

I want to get into photography and basic design stuff so I think the MB will be the way to go....

Plus I can store it away from my growing son's as they love to break things

Ok called Apple and if the unit shipped before the 1st of October 2007 I can do a rebate so I could get the new Leopard media shipped for £5.95 after that date I would have to enter the serial number on their website or send a scanned copy of my receipt to them and they will post me the media :D

Either way I get the latest OS and also 12% discount as my brothers wife works there, added to the fact JL said they would knock £30 off due to an old OS being on a brand new unit the total cost to me would be £588.72 with 2 years warranty :D good deal?

It's about £100 more to get the 2.2ghz and DVD burner?

Suppose it's worth it, I must have the ability to burn :)

2gb RAM upgrade it cheap from OcUK too I see :D

Have seen a nice Brenthaven (Edge|Black) case that fits the bill

//edit - definitely up the ram though - I bought the 4gb kit from OCUK and my macbook is now lightning fast!

4gb may be an overkill for me though as I'll only be doing light picture editing and movie converting and such, however if I make a good whack on splitting and selling my old system I may treat myself to the 4gb package while I have the cash :)

I'm dieing to get rid of my rig now and move to the Mac Book ..........

Just need to make sure I get the best price for my stuff so I can be sure to get the 2.2ghz and 120gb hard drive and also the Double-layer SuperDrive :D

Whats a good mouse to use on these bad boys? I have a Logitech MX Revolution at the moment?
