I was excited about an operation I had nearly 3 years ago (I think!). Prior to it, I could barely eat, I'd be choking in my sleep on a drink I might have had hours previous. It was not a nice existence.
I've been in hospital a couple of times over the last few months. The food was good and with regards to the op, I was quite looking forward to it. Not only does it feel like you've had the best sleep but you know you're going to be fixed when you wake up.
I've got an operation coming up this year when I get time to book it, and although I'm less than enthusiastic about the idea of getting put under and cut up (never had any surgery at all before) I'm ecstatic at the prospect of not having this ****ing thing on my back getting in the way of my life anymore! Don't mind myself, do what they have to do, isn't going to kill you. Never have minded hospitals, I can't understand some peoples fear, even if they walk in some are petrified.

When you've got three young kids, an overnight stay in a hospital sounds bliss!

I dunno
"ooo how did you get that scar"
"i had a knoby growth surgically removed"
