Is it wrong to get excited about an operation?

I like hospitals. I'm just really interested in how the whole thing is run and the procedures for different things. When I had an op last year I was scared about the pain but excited about staying in a hospital for a day :p

I'm weird I guess.

Yes, you are, but there are plenty of websites for people who get excited about medical procedures. It's not way out there weird, as weirdness goes.

I'm going into hospital on the first of Feb to have some work done on my hand by a plastic surgeon as I have a brick hard lump/bone that has developed on the back of my hand (a bit like a ganglion but it's not).
Anyway, I can't wait as I love the thought of being sliced open :D

Is this wrong  ;)

Anyone else like hospitals

Mmmmmmmmmm ..... nurses .... drool !!!

If I was going in for an operation like you're having then I wouldn't worry at all and would be quite looking forward to seeing the results.

Can't say it'd be the same for something more serious though, i.e. something you may not come out of or that will affect the rest of your life.

Its nice being able to lie in bed for several days with hot(ish) women waiting on you hand and foot. But I can see it being a horrible place if you're going for anything serious.

I just went in for a tendon repair on my hand and ended up being in there for 4 days waiting :(. day after the op i went home and it seemed very strange. I quite liked it in there.

I should really go and have an op to remove a cyst but can't afford to take 8-10 weeks off work for recovery.

I had to have an op last year (about 4/5 months back) and hated it. The wait to get seen in the first place was bad enough and then actually getting around to an operation was another 3 days in hospital.

It was only for my appendix but still - I was unlucky enough to somehow trap a nerve in my lower back while in the beds (was moved about a few times between wards) and had to take morphine just to get some kind of rest (barely slept it hurt so much).

Given your enthusiasm it will come as good news to you that sometimes ops go badly wrong. So you might need to stay in and have your whole hand or arm off. :p

I've got an operation coming up this year when I get time to book it, and although I'm less than enthusiastic about the idea of getting put under and cut up (never had any surgery at all before) I'm ecstatic at the prospect of not having this ****ing thing on my back getting in the way of my life anymore! (pilonidal cyst)

When you say back, you mean arse crack right? ;)

Had one of those buggers myself a few months ago, no surgery for me though.

If I was going in for an operation, I'd try and get it done privately using my company's private medical insurance. If I did manage to go private, I too would look forward to it. Someone I know had a knee operation at a BUPA hospital a few years ago and he said it was like staying in a 4* star hotel. He had full Sky TV in his private room and could order food at his leisure. I think he had a 16 oz fillet steak for dinner. :D

EDIT: And there was numerous pretty nurses often checking in and making sure he was ok. :)

Hated my experience, I'm not afraid of hospitals, going under, being operated on or anything. But I felt so sick for the day after being put under it was horrible.

Plus the operation meaning I couldn't eat anything solid for a week didn't help :p

2 op's, both same procedure. First time I can safely say I have never been as scared in my life. Second time I was actually looking forward to it.

I'd say it depends on the operation.

I'm in hospital on Thursday for a shoulder reconstruction - I'm bricking myself about being put under (will be the first time), but I'm looking forward to the end result (many months down the line...)

Plus, I hate hospitals, and I'm even going in on my birthday!

Last operation I had was my wisdom teeth out. Was looking forward to the operation as they gave me bad toothache all the time

Well that was an anti climax

Went to hospital all ready to be seduced (I mean sedated) only to be sent to another dept to have another couple of hand xrays. It's now been decided by the plastic surgeon that I need to have an ultrasound done on my hand and there's a nine week waiting list for that!

My god man ..... Nine more weeks of watching the post drop through the letterbox to let me know when I'll be butchered :D

Al :D
