Is my feet positioning unusual?

This is a timely thread because I've just started learning to drive!

Is it unusual to suffer from muscle strain on the right side of my shin (of my right leg) when operating the pedals? I get it because of having to lift and hover my foot above the pedals with the heel remaining on the floor. My instructor did say that I will feel a bit of strain!

Anyone else experienced this or am I just inflexible?!

Can't say I've ever experienced this. If you're straining your leg, perhaps the seat isn't adjusted properly.

Feek - your position does look a little odd to me. The pictures posted just recently show a better position.

Ideally, your heel should be between the brake and accelerator, but much more towards the brake pedal. The foot should be angled diagonally to the right to use the gas, but relatively straight when braking - the idea being that in an emergency situation, you hit the brake square and true, and aren't prone to slipping off the side of the pedal, even with wet shoes (if it's been raining).

I'll get a photo later to confirm (if I remember!) but usually my heel is on the brake pedal side of the gap. My foot is therefore tilted to the right to use the accelerator pedal and more or less straight on to the brake pedal when braking.

I always pick my heel up off the floor when braking ready to move it to the accelerator pedal for heel/toe action (in manual cars).
