A week ago I bought 2Gb of Geil 6400C4 800mhz, having tested my memory using memtest86+ it errors at anything faster than 333mhz, am I correct in thinking it should be able to run @ 400mhz 4-4-4-12 in which case my ram is faulty?

Thanks

Andy

first double check you are putting the correct voltage through it, if memory serves, most DDR2 boards default to 1.8V, while the ram you mention needs 1.9V and can take up to 2.3V

2.1V should be safe without additional cooling, at 2.3V you might want to start looking at increasing the airflow over your ram modules to keep them a little cooler!

Sorry I should have mentioned I have already increased the volts to 2.1 and tried slackening the timings to 5-5-5-18 but still got errors in memtest.

Try testing one stick at a time, that will most likely tell you.

If it is still erroring, try playing with the other memory settings (if there are any). My old Sapphire Pure Innovation was fussy when it came to RAM, whereby one small setting made the whole system error with the memory, very frustrating.

If that doesn't work, try it in another machine if you can.

And if all else fails possibly RMA time :(

I had problems with my Geil 6400 but found the volts had to be at 2.0v for 4-4-4-12, it runs fine at 1.8v at 5-5-5-18. Fussy stuff indeed.
