Is my Graphics temp too high? And is my fans behavior normal?

High all,

I have a Sapphire HD-4870 1gb Toxic card, when I boot up the pc the fan will rev up once for a very short period then return to normal, its on automatic.

My idle temp is 63*c with internet browsing. To be honest I thought the idle temp would have been lower with the Toxic Vapour cooler.

Anyone know if the idle temp is normal, and if the fan reving on start up is normal?

Cheers,
:)

Mine revs up briefly then returns to normal when booting.

No biggie, just a little annoying really.

Not much I can think of doing about it either as it only happens during POST and Windows loading screens.

The ATi drivers and Catalyst Control Centre are what control the automatic fan speed in Windows using the data monitoring from the gfx temp sensors. During POST and for the majority of the windows startup these drivers/software are not active and therefore cannot control the fan speed of the gfx. Thus an annoying little problem.

However. depending how annoyed you are and if your card allows you can mod the bios of the card to make the fans spin at a set speed (say 30%) until told otherwise (which would be when windows has loaded and the Catalyst software takes over)
