hi,

was just talking to my mate about how my pc is randomly crashing, freezing even when im just browsing the internet and playing fm2006. then he said that this is definitely a problem with my cpu(amd x2 4400+) as dual cores have problems with nforce4 chips(i have an epox mobo) so thats why im getting all these random crashing and freezing.

is what my mate saying right?

cheers

ahh so my mates just telling porkies then?
now i need to find out what the real reason to why me pc freezes randomly :(

hi,
well i built my rig(see sig) at around august and when i built that i did update the bios as my pc can now see my cpu is a dual core.

i havent been oc and i have two fans running and on the mobo it indicates my pc temperature is 40degrees.

and i recently installed a hiper type-r 580w psu so that should be fine. so do you think this is more of a RAM problem?its nothing to do with the cpu?or hard drive is it?

cheers for you help so far.

only way your going to find out is to test it. if you built the computer yourself then you must be real stupid to even put an operating system on it without running a memory test prior to the install.
first rule of any home made system is to run memtests before doing anything else.
sorry but i didnt realise i had to run memtest before installing a operating system, ive built my mates rig and i didnt run a memtest yet he has no problem in fact my uncle builds loads of pc and he never bothered to run memtest yet he tells me theres no problems with his pcs.

i am grateful for you helping me but is it necessary to say i must be real stupid because i did not run a memory test prior to install?

hi,
ive checked all the plugs needed to go to the mobo.i havent checked for a BIOS update or strip the machine as i havent had the time for the past 2 days. i dont really want to reinstall the os since i have quite a few programs so to install it back it would take some time.

there seems to be more than one memtest program so which one is it that most people use?can you link me please?
