Is my Phenom X6 seriously hindering my performance?

Hi guys,

As requested I took some pictures of what my overclock config looks like, anything past this doesn't boot up.

Any ideas on what I could configure it to if possible to improve the overclock as I have turned off all the power saving settings and the memory timings, etc aren't at crazy levels so no idea why it doesn't overclock past this, must be the mobo or cpu.

I have RipJaws X Vengence 2x4GB ram installed by the way, with 2 ram slots unoccupied.

Thanks guys :) Wouldn't mind keeping the Phenom X6 if it overclocked to aorund 3.8GHZ-4GHZ

I was referencing the cpu-nb speed in conjunction with overclocks over 3.6ghz-4.0 require a cpu-nb of around 2300-2500. By you stating that Lots of boards struggle to let their NB get pushed at all, seen it countless times in "good" boards.

I think you meant the ht ref here (to which i agree)? If so the only reason i then corrected you was i thought you were saying the nb-cpu struggles to be clocked, which i've never heard of ( I know you know your stuff and If we can agree to agree I do know my stuff too).

And yes I agree the higher end boards do provide a higher ht ref than some mid range boards. I never bothered with the 8 series but my old b55 lives in my dads machine as an x2 again in a 880. So I will try out the max stable ht ref just for curiosity.

One thing can you provide us with a cpu-z screen shot of the memory section.
Nothing looks out of place on the bios screens, but the v-core 1.475 is pretty high for a default setting. With windows on and prime 95 loop, using cpuid hwmonitor what do your core temps reach ? and what bios is on the motherboard
 
That's crazy.
Only boards I've seen get that high are the MSI Power Fuzion/Crosshair IV/Crosshair V and a few select others.

And I was saying the NB (The motherboards Northbridge) struggles to clock high.
The CPU NB is the IMC which is on the CPU (Which you correctly, and I agree with, can clock high despite the board, as it's down to the silicon lottery)
My CPU NB was 3.2GHZ on my 1055T, which Combat Squirrel now owns.

Hence why I said lots of boards struggle to get their NB pushed, hence keyword boards :p

Gets ya now mate yeah the nb thats imbedded onto the motherboard.

Thats the best board i ever had bar the abit av8 3rd eye socket 939.
That board enabled me to reuse ddr800 from an e8400 system, to giving the 620 death and then even more death on the b55 until mid last year when i sold it for sb. Those mosfets and chokes used to squeal lmao.!!
 
@ OP

Conveniently I have the same motherboard as you and I can confirm that the HT-ref will go at least as high as 250. However, the most obvious problem I can see is that your default volts are 1.475. This might mean that even though the average temperature of the CPU is ok, individual cores may be overheating. I would suggest manually reducing the voltage to 1.4V.

then, try testing the HT-ref. Set the clock to 250 and set the frequency dividers and multipliers to give stock frequency. If it does not crash, then it isn't the motherboard. I believe that the HT-ref of the 770t-ud3 will go up to 300 without issue, although you'll need adequate airflow.
 
With a very basic overclock just using the bus clock, my 1055T was able to hit 3.725GHz at 1.425V (266MHz) and I ran it 24/7 at 3.5GHz at 1.375V. This used a 250MHz bus and 2250MHz HT and NB with 1667Mhz ram.

I swapped it out for a 1090T which gives me higher overclocks and the difference in price was about £25 between buying and selling secondhand.

I really appreciate it, after reading the posts and analysing my overclock I am able to get a 3.8GHZ overclock on my Phenom X6, I made some changes to the RAM config and as others suggested I lowered the voltage on CPU from 1.475 (the default) to 1.375 whlist overclocked :D

I tried to overclock to 4.0GHz but even upping the CPU voltage to 1.45 didn't boot it, always gave me BSOD.

Looks like I won't have to upgrade to a i5 just yet, perhabs when I start being bottlenecked by the CPU or if a new generation of processors come out.

I think 3.8GHz is already about the highest that 1055T can go. Unlike the 1090T BE or 1100T BE, your non-BE CPU has locked multipler, so you are unlike to go beyond 3.8GHz without the capability to change the multipler.
 
Nice, 35% overclock.

The thing to remember about AMD chips is once the temperature goes above 55C no amount of volts will give you more stability, you start getting thermal runaway at that point. Once you get to around 4GHz the heat generated increases rapidly, which is why the fastest PII ever released was clocked at 3.7GHz.
