Hiya,

I have a Belkin wireless ADSL router, just use it for myself and a comp in the other room hooked up to the internet.

I havent used any 'security' on the wireless as it asks for a passcode etc and im not sure what im getting into!?

Anyway...

This is what I saw under the 'LAN > DHCP Client List' heading;

1**.1*8.2.2 ****-** *********************
1**.1*8.2.3 ****-************************
1**.1*8.2.4 YOUR-************ 00:1*:**:**:10:9*

I've starred out a lot of the info, mainly the MAC Addresses, but BASICALLY, the top 2 are mine and the one in the other rooms, both online at present.

But what is the 3rd one?!

'YOUR' etc etc ? What is that? Is that a neighbour using the connection?

Many thanks in advance,

Sean

Well if you only have 2 devices in your home and a third is on the network then yes id say someone else is doing it from outside. Time to look at some secuiry id say.

I can have wireless security according to belkin router page but it asks;

64bit WEP
128bit WEP
WPA
WPA-PSK

Which is the one to use? And they ask for codes and stuff???

They generate an encryption key which you enter the on the machines you want to have access to the network therefore not allowing anyone without the key (outside your home) onto the network. I think its been mentioned that WPA is the best to use.

192.168.2.2/3/4 ;) Most home networks have those IPs, you need only mask the MAC ids if you really want to... :)

Personally, if you have no encryption on there, immediately do it. Whoever is using your network could be doing so for all the wrong reasons. Although, he could have course just be casually browsing the web, but it's your bandwidth he is using.

LOL true, although I dont know how to do that?!

I cannot get it to work guys, i've tried selecting 128bit WEP etc, It gives me 13 digit hex keys, then asks for a passphrase with a generate button next to it, which if I click, changes the numbers?!

I then go onto the other comp, the net doesnt work and it asks for a key I try the key on the page with the WEP thing etc, and it doesnt work! So i've turned it all off now and gone without security? Is there anything easier out there :(

The key you're looking for is the big long hex thing, but either way, WEP is useless. WPA-PSK is the way to go.

Setting up WPA on your Belkin Wireless Router

1. Ensure your hardware is connected properly.
2. Open a web browser and in the address bar type in the router's IP address and press enter.
3. Enter the password to access the configuration page of your modem. The default password is admin and press login.
4. Select Advanced Setup in the left hand column.
5. Click WPA under the Wireless menu.
6. Select Enable.
7. Enter your network key.
8. Click Save Settings to finish. You must now set all clients (network cards) to match these settings.

Hi mate, thanks for that,

But problem is;

This is what it looks like

Belkin.JPG

Asking for Radius key etc etc!?

Yes mate, just tried that and it now only asks for a key :D thanks man :)

So i'll go to that page and generate a 63 digit one.

What do I have to do on the other comps though? Go to the router setup page as well?

Also, shall I keep a note of that network key?

And when Mr Babdwitdh leech trys to connect he/she will be asked and then be very :mad: :mad:

:p

WPA-PSK is deffinatley the way to go.

It could genuinely be someone with little know how tried and failed to set up a wireless network nearby and connected to wrong one! Especially if the SSID is set at the default.

Let us know how you get on!
