Is Radeon vega 64 overkill for 1080p

will be buying my components tomorrow and I’m just curious would a vega 64 gpu be overkill for 1080p? I use two 1080p monitors. I will have a 2700x ryzen cpu. 3200mhz ram (16gb)/480gb ssd/2tb hhd.

So I’m just wondering do I save £170 and go with the 590 or go over my budget and get a vega 64.

Cheers for the help :)

I would go with the Vega 56, its only a tad slightly slower than the 64 but you save £100.

590 is not worth the price with 56 being a couple quid more and significantly faster.

Imo even my 480 was kinda overkill at 1080p, so I'd definitely recommend a 590 (Devil one is nicely priced atm) instead just for value.

Yeah its a bit overkill. For 1080p @ 60fps something like a RX 580 will do you just fine. Only for 4k/1440p at high fps would you need a vega 64

I use two 1080p monitors.
will you be using both monitors for gaming at the same time?
if yes, then get the vega.
2560*1440*60fps = 221Mpix/s
2x 1920*1080*60fps = 249Mpix/s

so as you can see, you'd need more GPU horsepower to drive 2x 1080p screens than 1 1440p screen

Same setup as you, though single screen, but also 1080p. I briefly had a Vega 64 before returning it due to coil whine. While it probably is overkill it was damn good for gaming at 144hz.

I was planning to order another but it was a bit of a rushed purchase initially and now I've looked a bit more I think the Vega 56 looks like a better option, not really enough between them to justify the extra. Annoyingly though, now I've made that decision the Sapphire 56 that was down to £320 has gone back up, so the price difference isn't so great and I'm still tempted to pay the extra for a 64.

OP, Please don't cross post. I have merged the two threads.
Thank you. Sorry about cross posting. I posted in the wrong channel and couldn’t work out how to delete it.

I ended up going with a 590. I have 2 monitors but one is only for football manager which is very minimal and then i play my other games (rust/Pubg/Skyrim/fortnite etc) on the other monitor. Both are 60hz and 1080p. I just thought for £170 saving over the vega 64 the Radeon 590 seemed a good buy.

thanks for the insight man :). Went with a 590 in the end.

Actually, just had a look. 580 prices just all went up. So 590 is 20% more expensive for 10-15% more performance. Probably just stick with the 590 for the money. 580 isn't that great value anymore.

But if you want to save £40 and try your hand at overclocking, then the gigabyte 580 for £200 would be my suggestion

Ah I ill Stick with the 590 then. Not too clued up on overclocking so the 590 sounds like a sweetspot for me
