Is Sony pulling out of the PC market?

Even though I have a ps5 I just can't use the controller. Maybe it's the years using the Xbox controller on the pc (not for FPS games) but I find the playstation controller uncomfortable. This was why I would rather play the games like returnal on the pc. Though I also know people who say the same about Xbox controllers.

The FF7 remakes and Saros were all I was interested in, so will be mega annoyed if they don't arrive on PC.

I'm not buying a console for one game and I'm not even considering playing something like a fast paced shooter on a bloody controller.

Its no big surprise as they all only use specific platforms when it suits them.
God Of War games IMO were terrible no loss there.
Uncharted was better but not sure the next one was due on anything except PS5 now the console is being sold for a few more years.

The final installment of FF7 remake is going to launch as a multi-platform title. Square Enix weren't happy with the sales for FF7 Rebirth when it was a timed exclusive on the PS5. Saros, however, if the reports are true, won't be coming to PC.

Just need to time lock them at 1 year minimum on ps5 exclusive then allow the pc market to double dip into a game when they port it. Win win for Sony.

Must be scared stiff of Steam Machine and Xbox-is-a-PC...
Well the SteamDeck can already emulate a PS4, and someone has turned their PS5 into a SteamMachine, so how long before the PS5 gets hacked/emulated?
Perhaps instead of locking their system down, they should focus on making their console and platform better than the others.

I can understand why Sony would do this from a business point of view. I'm very much of the opinion that 1st party exclusives are critical to the success / viability of a console platform. From a consumer perspective, though, this news complicates matters. With increasing hardware costs will many people be able to afford owning multiple platforms ?
Netflix, Disney, Paramount and all the other paid streaming services all have exclusives, yet I've not bought into a single one of them.
People are already suffering 'subscription burnout' and if consoles are gonna try to play the same game they'll suffer the same fate, as customers either just don't bother or they find ways to pie-rat the content they want.

I agree and, like you, I have rejected these subscription services. But millions of people do pay for them - it’s a major revenue stream for Sony. That said, you don’t need to subscribe to PSN to play their 1st party single player games. By abandoning PC ports they’re trying to preserve brand identity and anticipating some new customers will be persuaded to join their “walled” ecosystem. And I suspect hoping existing patrons won’t flee the nest ( to another platform - PC in particular ).

Key Factors for a PC Release
  • Square Enix’s Multiplatform Strategy: Following underwhelming sales for
    Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
on PS5 alone, Square Enix officially adopted an "aggressive multiplatform strategy". They have committed to bringing major AAA titles to PC, Xbox, and Nintendo platforms simultaneously or near-launch to maximize their reach.
  • PC as the "Lead Platform": In February 2026, Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that PC is now the lead development platform for the third installment. This change ensures that the game is built for high-end hardware first and then optimized for consoles, rather than being ported to PC years later.
  • No Timed Exclusivity: Industry reports from early 2026 indicate that Square Enix has not signed a new timed-exclusivity deal with Sony for the final part of the trilogy. Instead, the goal is a "day-and-date" release on PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and the
    Nintendo Switch 2
    .
  • Expansion of Previous Titles: To prepare for the finale, Square Enix has already released
    FF7 Remake Intergrade
    and
    FF7 Rebirth
on PC, with Xbox and Switch 2 versions scheduled for June 3, 2026.

Disappointing, really enjoyed HZD, and bought HFW on release.

Not even slightly interested in buying a PS5/6/7/etc. as I have a perfectly working "console" setup (in the form of a Steam Deck, and Nvidia Shield streaming from my PC) with a huge back catalog of games still to work through.

I guess there's no need for me to stick to using a Dualsense for the native functionality in PS games anymore either...

I can't see that many consoleers jumping ship, especially with today's prices, so long as they make a bloody good console... if they make a naff one, then it's their own fault.

I was about to just post this news, seems to be true and not some made up rumour. That's kinda sad to hear but maybe started to affect their console sales. I don't really see it effecting their hardware sales and must be bringing in a lot money selling to other platforms and PCs. Who knows what the master plan is and we were all shocked back when Sony said they would bring PlayStation exclusives to the PC and other platforms, seems they are going back on that.. May damage the PlayStation part of the company in the climate we are in and maybe one of them "Cut off your nose to spite your face" situations in this climate.

I personally think it's a bad move and I think the benefits of having exclusives on other devices is a good way to even encourage people to buy a PlayStation in the future as most exclusives even released on other platforms take longer to release normally and some of the exclusives are great living room games with family and friends and most people don't have a PC/HTPC/Gaming PC in the living room and a console is usually the better choice in a living room.

By the time they came to PC it was already too late.

Everyone who wanted to play those games already had on the console.

I agree - the current economic climate makes it an extremely bad time to switch to PC for gaming. Let's wait and see how expensive the consoles ( and Steam Machine ) are though !

I take the opposite view. Too many people ( on PC ) were getting comfortable just waiting a year or so for the inevitable port of Sony's latest 1st party exclusive. It devalued the need to buy a PS5. This news changes the dynamic entirely.
