Is the 3090 a 'waste' for gaming?

Hi guys, long time no post. Like a lot of people I'm at the end of my tether in regards to picking up an new Graphics Card. I've missed out on a 3080/3070/3060ti lol. The queues to get one seem to be into the months rather than weeks as well :(

This has led me to consider the 3090 as they are the only cards I ever see in stock. Most of the reviews I've read show these are only 10/15% faster than a 3080.

So am I being stupid even considering these? Is the 3080 stock situation going to improve?

It's terrible, the amount of money you could get a 6800xt or 3080 and an OLED TV or Series X, PS5 plus a 3080.

A 3080 + a cheap car
a 3080 + a new sofa
A 3080 + lots of christmas decorations
A 3080 + lots of takeaways
A 3080 + a chunk to a mortgage

So many different combinations.

With the news that AMD were launching a RX 6900 I hoped Nvidia would bring the price down to compete but it seems they're producing a RTX 3080 Ti instead. I'm expecting the 6900 to beat the 3090 convincingly in non-RT games and non-CUDA applications which are not VRAM-constrained.

This.

It's an outrageous amount of money for a single component! I would love to see the production costs for one of these cards, I don't suppose anyone has any idea?

In games, it's about 10% faster than a 3080. It's awful value for money.
It's a £1500 penis extension, and indistinguishable from a 3080 where your gaming experience is concerned.

If you're feeling like your 980Ti is getting outdated, you could look to buy something like a used 1080Ti or 2080 to tide you over until you can get your hands on a 3080.

These are luxury items, always remember that. If you're so desperate for a new GPU that you'd double your budget just because you can't find a 3080, I think you have bigger issues.

Good luck

Oh I know it's stupid, I kind of made this post for people to confirm with me it's stupid lol.

I also didn't realise that overclockers hasn't actually released any of their 3060ti cards yet (i assumed they sold out), so I may just hang on and see if I can get one of those when they do.

All depends what res you play on. I've changed from UW to 4k, I'll take every frame I can get and 3090 ticks the box nicely. 6900xt was going to be my go to but after 6800xt reviews with rt etc I'd rather have a card that can do all the jazz my monitor is capable of.

If I hadn’t of won mine I would have just went with a 3080 or Radeon equivalent, is a good card but I don’t think it’s worth the difference. My wife’s 3070 seems ok as well but she doesn’t really tax it much in the games she plays or that she plays at 1080p.

I'm in the same boat OP. Stay strong ! The 3090 is awful price too performance.

Hang in there for an RTX 3080 or 6800 XT these cards are worthy at RRP.

Assuming that the market does normalize at some point ? ..
