Am looking for a monitor to go with my new mac pro (yes yes i know!) and wondered whether this Dell bad boy would give me the right conditions for awesome photo/video editing?

If not, is there something better?!!

Cheers!

Hope so. Because I've just bought one :D
Not got it yet though. Hoping for delivery next week.

Sorry to report but I wouldn't touch it,

It was originally my monitor of choice but I hunted everywhere for a review without success.

Finally managed to find some user comments of it from the Dell forum and the reports were very bad.

The screen quality is rather poor and as such I ticked that off my list.

Photo editing and the like? I believe a non TN panel would suit you better as they produce better colours.

Sadly 99.9% of 22inch models are TN. Eizo have just produced a 22inch but the price is crazily high.

There's always the 20inch where despite being a year older the Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP scores highly.

IF you could stretch to a 24inch the OcUK Value L2442W at £270 could prove a winner.

ooooo... Controversy! Yeah i know what you mean about the TN on that but there is little choice! Do you know if the mac monitors us TN as well?

Attached below is what I just posted about the OCUK L2442W -- I'm using it for photo editing right now and it's excellent, especially the colour rendering across the screen and at different viewing angles.

Given the accurate gamma, colour tracking, resolution of dark/light levels, and smooth shading it's difficult to see what could be significantly improved for this type of work.

Yes I'm quite pleased with it... :-)

L2442WD received last week, checked out using http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/

brightness (black level) 50 -- set using contrast/dark level test
contrast (white level) 69 -- set using white saturation test
gamma close to 2.2 on all 3 test bars (48%, 25%, 10%)
no visible banding on any of gradient tests
no stuck or dead pixels on any of colour panel tests
very little colour/brightness shift with viewing angle

In other words, as close to perfect as you could ask for :-)

Well I recieved it today, and so far I'm very very impressed.

Out of the box the quality was stunning, tones not far out, and the colour had a slight red tint to it I thought.

After calibration with the Eye1, its spot on.
The glossy reflective screen took an hour or so to get used to but I really like it.

Installed the monitor drivers, but the webcam drivers needed no software, and worked with MSN without any interaction. Its a good quality webcam too, and actually handy to have, not taking up any desk space.

Backlight bleed is extremely minimal I find, just a bit of bleed from a black screen along the top.

Viewing angles are good, naturally its best viewed head on though.
Nice smooth tilt mechanism, none of this jerky stuff. The whole monitor looks damn pretty too (which always helps).

All in all Im very very happy with it, and I'm glad I returned the Asus one I bought a couple of weeks ago for a refund.

Ive edited one or two photos today on it. Nothing big, just 'faffing', and I find the colour reproduction very faithful.
Ive still got my LG 19" running dual next to it, also calibrated and the difference isn't much between them (except the dell is punchier and clearer).
