Im in the process of upgrading my macnine. recently got a 3700 A64 chip and now its time to retire my old FX BFG 5500. I'm condisering the new gainwood but would really apreciate any advice from anyone thats in the know.

My system specs are:

asrock dual sata2 mobo
3700+ Athlon64
1 Gig pc2700 ram
250 WD hard drive

I'm looking at a budget of about £200.

Its a very quick card and only beat by 7800 GT's and X1800's, remember these are all PCI-Express graphics cards....

Stretech to £234

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)

Totally agree, this card slaughters the 6800GS.
Heck its faster than everything but the 7800GT 512MB.

Its good but no better than a normal 6800GS and for me not worth the extra amount of money.

If PCI-E look more towards the 7800GT (availbel for around the £200 mark)

When i try and run doom 3 with ultra quality it says it uses over 5oo meg for textures will the 512 ram help with that better than the other cards mentioned?

No. The Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO) will run it faster / better IQ.

Its a lot quicker than a normal 6800 GS!!! The clock speeds are far far higher and it has twice the amount of memory and for the price its exceptional value for money. :)
