Is there a better contract?

Hey, well i've been a PAYG man for as long as has been possible, but my inability to buy a new phone has driven me to look at contract options. Does anybody know anything about mobilerainbow (or similar sites), because i'm sorely tempted by a deal on there where i can get a HTC Touch2 with 700 minutes and unlimited texts and internet for (after factoring in the free 12 months line rental) £11.42 per month for 18 months on T-Mobile. That's near as makes no difference £200 in total for a £200 phone, plus all the usage i would ever need. My questions are these though:

  • Is there a catch?
  • Is the company trustworthy?
  • Is it a good deal?
  • Is there a better deal?

Thanks :)

PS) Yes, i know, i'm creating far to many threads on this...

The catch is that they spread the free line rental cashback throughout the contract period so you have to remember ever three months to send in a bill. You may also have to chase them up on occasion and the money normally takes a further month or two to arrive back. Other than that they are normally ok.

However I haven't heard of mobilerainbow before so don't know what they are like and check on quidco to see what cashback they can give you (I got £40 back from them with mobiles.co.uk for example). :)

Ah, reviews of mobilerainbow are quite worrying, and i can't find anything on Mobiles.co.uk.

Anybody know of any similar contracts which offer a free (preferably HTC) phone and unlimited data, or close to? I don't much care for minutes and texts to be honest, 100 of each would probably be enough.

£10 a month over 18 months to include calls and paying back £350+ of handset subsidy. Dream on!

Your only option are the dodgy cashback resellers and that's really not recommended.

If memory serves the Qtek is a rather elderly WM device. I had the later SPV M3100 version a couple of years back from work. Useless as a phone, great for getting exchange email/calendar.

O2 do a cheapish SIM-only contract called Simplicity. Might be worth a look.

Yeah, it's 5 years old but it runs WM6 quite well... i can get a new one for £80 delivered. But that Diamond looks tempting, i've asked the seller for a few pics to check its condition.

Thanks for that, i'll check it out. Dad's on an O2 contract at the minute so i'll see if i can't get something out of that :p

Slow, buggy and poor build quality. One of the reasons WM has got such a bad rep with a lot of people on this forum whose first WM phone was the Diamond.

God no, the Diamond is one of the worst HTC phones of the last few years, stear well clear IMO.

I blows, even by Windows Mobile standards. We bought a handful at work then stopped people ordering it. Looks nice, but not nice to use. Awful battery life, slow (even for WM), kept locking up and the sound quality was poor.
