Is there a "Spider Season" ?

+1 for a cat. Mine loves spiders, flys, moths pretty much anything that moves and within catching range. Infact it's love of moths is a bit annoying/funny at times as it launches it self across the room with no reguard for a safe landing area (many a time the TV or a drink has been in the way)

its going to be chaos in your house when you get the dog in to try catch the cat thats jumping round all over the place

It was amazing walking to the bus stop this morning, because it was foggy dew had settled on all the spiders webs and threads, what you don't realise is that almost everything is absolutely CAKED in thread. Was amazing to see but it was like the spiders had gone mental over night and just webbed everything! Deffo spider season!

I notice this too when it is icy. Bushes, trees and all sorts are covered in webs. Is it true we are only ever a few feet from an insect? I'm sure I read that somewhere.

Its horrible when you walk down your garden to the car, and you inevitably hit some massive invisible silk threads and then you try and pick them off, but when driving you think you can still feel something moving on you.

Get a cat.

This, however - I was shaving the other day with my top off. Felt a tickling up my back and for some reason only known to God, I thought it was one of my cats brushing his whiskers across me(any guesses where this is going??). Turned around to find one of the biggest spiders like the one in the photo on page one ambling up my back towards my face...

The next 5 seconds were a bit of a blur :(

Had one of these once in my bedroom. They usually all live in the garage but sometimes one sneaks out and makes its way to the bedroom window.

Only thing I saw of it was some huge disgusting legs around the bedpost. Had to get my better half to get rid of it :( Didn't even want to see how large its body was!

Found this bugger in my ktchen this morning. He is lucky he did not get hoovered up!

Two pence piece for size reference. :D

Why do people kill spiders? I just leave them where they are - not like they are going to eat me or something.

Plus they keep down the other insect populations that houses have - the ones that actually do damage - like silverfish for example.

I was woken up the other night by my brother trying to kill a spider that he couldnt get from under his bed. In the end he went and stayed at the holiday inn for the night lol.

Why did i come into this thread :(

I HATE spiders - borderline arachnophobic!

Sitting on the loo the other day playing Angry Birds, turned around to get the toilet paper to see a HUGE spider (body small, HUGE legs), i **** myself for the second time!

Had to wipe away from the toilet and throw the toilet paper into the toilet - it was not good.

Was still there this morning when i needed a pee, so decided to go outside :D

It's rather annoying this arachnophobia thing :(

Genuinely no offense intended but you sound like a complete moron with that post. Nesting isn't exclusive to birds like you imply, all animals nest in some way. Spiders often nest in dry cracks and crevices, especially near the boiler room. That's why you get so many spiders stuck in bathtubs.

Spiders don't nest. They live in various places like silk lined burrows, silk tubes, cracks and crevices, tree holes etc., but they're certainly not nests in the accepted sense.

That looks quite similar to a Segestria Florentina, which is quite common in Bristol, though not native. In the little enclosed courtyard outside my window, I could find 10-15 of them within a minute. I've not had one of these ever come inside though and my window is open all day long.

Does it? It looks suspiciously like a Tegenaria sp. to me :)

Quoted for truth.

Just leave them alone, or just catch them in a cup and stick them out of a window.
