Is there an AGP card much faster than my ATI800Pro/XT@570/570

I have an ATI800Pro flashed to an XT running at 570/570... Are there any AGP cards notably faster than this? eg: 25-50% faster than will make a difference with current/next-gen games?

I moved from an X800XT to a Gainward BLISS 7800GS (7800GT) and it is significantly faster.

I know this is hard to answer, but what do you mean by "significant"... Maybe a couple of examples of games you played and the FPS etc you noticed?

Thanks...

I can't help but think we'll see a few more of these kinds of cards to cash in on all the AGP crowd not upgrading to PCI.

Counterstrike Source stress test used to see 109fps with all settings maxed out at 1280 x 1024.
Now I get 140fps which is a good improvement considering CS:S & HL2 tend to favour ATI cards.

Well I would get the 7900GT. Basically a 7800GTX which would be a big upgrade.

Going on FEAR benchmarks.

1280x1024 4xaa 16xAF
x850xtpe = 26fps
7800gt = 32fps
7800gtx = 37fps

The 7900gt would be almost identical to the 7800gtx but would overclock quite a lot.

just noticed you rig in sig mate and you are quite cpu limited a bigger oc would give better results

My CPU is basically as fast as it can go... and more overclocking and I get hangs/freezes... And there is no faster CPU available for the MB.

This 3Ghz chip isn't nearly as overclockable as my old 2.4 one which I could overclock by about 20%.

I'd have to upgrade my MB and CPU, and therefore do an operating system reinstall/rebuild. Ideally, if I could find a GFX card that would increase my frame rate 50-75%, I'd take that simpler (and hopefully cheaper) route.

At the moment I can play games like Fear, HL2 and Oblivion fairly OK... eg: 800x600 with a lot of detail at a min of 25-35fps etc..

i have 2 p4 2.4 chips, one is a B core @3.5 (htpc) other is a C core at 3.4 (in my shuttle)

you get a better increase if you went dothan power ct49 adaptor route

What on earth is a ct49 adaptor route? I've done a google & search here with no joy!

I have a similar CPU to yours P4-2.8 OC to 3.06 and last week purchased a 7800GS+
Put it this way the card flys at everything I have thrown at it even with this cpu
HL Lost coast stress test 1280x1024, 4xAA, 4xAS, HDR 70fps
Fine for me as im in the same situation and dont want to upgrade the whole MB, CPU for at least another 12 months

Out of interest, is this just a figure you've approxiamated? Or is it from a "stress test"?

If it is a proper test I'll run mine thru the same test if you can tell me how and compare the fps... At least it will give me an idea...

ps: Of course that card is very expensive, and I can't help but think a MB & CPU upgrade would produce as much (if not more) of an improvement? (Mind you there's be memory as well to worry about :confused: )

That was a proper stress test, Memory is important as well i guess which is why i plumped for 2 GB of corsair DDR XMS3500LL Pro earlier in the year.

Are you able to tell me, or point me to somewhere, to explain how you would run such a stree test? I've googled, but not found anything :rolleyes:

Isn't it just an option on the main menu, im pretty sure it is but cant check til i get home
It only appears on Lost Coast though not HL2

Right @ 1280x1024, 4xAA, 4xAS I get 44fps. Now I assume I have HDR going as well? As that's the whole point of the demo isn't it?

So basically you're about 60% faster in this test...
