Is there any point in a 8800GTX for 1280 *1024

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to do an upgrade for my rig, see sig below but my current LCD can only cope with 1280*1024 and I'm wondering if it's worth my while going for the 8800GTX. Also need to upgrade my CPU, probably going to go to the 4400 X2.

Play a lot of FS X, Fear, Medieval War 2(on order)

Money is not a major issue, but don't want to spend it if it's not worth it.

Views appreciated.

Cheers

You'll have all they eye candy and FPS you could ever want @ 1280x1024

Yup, just look at the reviews, they are even awesome at that res, as Guru3D says, if your on that res, you have a card that will last bloody eons, well not the exact words, but you get the point. :D

I only game at 1280x1024 and even id get one for that res, as as said above you can whack on all eye candy, the full new AA/AF the lot, and still get blistering frame-rates.

You can never have too much GPU power but the difference between a GTX and GTS might be smaller at 1280x1024

Yeah possibly consider the GTS. That should still deliver all the eye-candy maxed out at 1280x1024 and be smooth as butter. :)

I've just ordered a palit one for £440 (soz to mention a price im just so chuffed), anway im 1280x1024 and can't wait to be able to run everything at max with 4xAA 16xAF and all the rest of it...

Definately not a waste getting a GTX even on 1280x1024, you'll be getting a consistant nice smooth frame rate with everything on full, not like any current graphics card.

FEAR for example, with the latest ATI card, won't do a constant 60fps in difficult areas, even if the benchmarks say it will, they just take the average and hardly ever tell you that at tricky areas for the GPU your going to be getting 30fps.

Screw 4xAA you want to use CSAA 16xAA! :D

Cheers for your help guys.

I was hoping that someone would say definetly don't get the GTX, not worth your while, but by the look of it I'm going to be spending a lot of money after next payday.

The GTX is overkill at that res.

Hell if you can afford a GTX then you can afford a bigger monitor :p

Would still be impressive to whack all the details and AA/AF to the max in all games without worrying;)

Am gonna be waiting till better and more decent 22inch+ TFTs appear/ ones with 1080 support and HDMI/HDCP :)

id go for it, would allow me to run most games with all eye candy turned up to the max. shoudl even be able to get 16x AA working

Id go for it to at that res to, its constantly over 100fps, and will last for donkeys at that res to, every game AA/AF to the max will run like **** of a shovel on it. :D
