Is there really any need for 8gb?

I building a new PC I just see that RAM is cheap so why not go 8GB as I'll be running allot of programs a I need a snappy PC.

I am currently running 6GB DDR3 and find that it is plenty for the most part for what I need, I did have a memory issue where my RAM wasn't freeing up when I downloaded anything which was really weird but since my last format it seems to have vanished. I was running 4GB on my last machine and just found it a little lacking so I would highly recommend 6GB.

Just installed 24GB of this stuff. No real reason apart from it was a good price and very good RAM for the size. Previously ran 12GB with all slots populated so I will go probably back to 12GB and push the clocks which is easier on the memory controller.
