I've had a 7900GT in my PC for just over a year now (typical, out of warranty).
The rest of my PC includes a Gigabyte 8KNE motherdboard with a Sempron 3000+ CPU. None of the kit in my PC has ever been overclocked. Running XP.

More recently, I've had a number of occasions where my PC stalls during the Windows loading screen, and simply sits there and waits and waits...until I reboot.
If I go into safe mode, the PC will boot fine, and I've found that re-installing the graphics drivers normally solves the problem.
This time however, my PC simply refuses to boot normally regardless of whether I re-install the graphics drivers.

To me that suggests the probability of the issue being caused by a fault within the graphics hardware leading to a corruption of the drivers, but it now getting worse, so it's unreasolvable.

Anyone heard of something similar, and what the solution might be?

We seem to have a solution.
I've just completed a Windows repair, and that has solved the issue, implying that an element of windows had become corrupted. Phew at least that saves a LOT of dosh!
