Is this a PSU or Motherboard problem?

Hi all, wasn’t really sure where to post this, but General Hardware should be ok. For about 5 or 6 months now, when my computer goes into sleep mode, this problem seems to happen about once every couple of weeks or so. Whenever I press the power button to switch the computer back on, it won’t turn on. I can try for 10 minutes pushing the button, before it eventually comes back on. I then have absolutely no more problems with it, until it decides to do the same thing a few weeks later.

I was originally running Vista Ultimate, until Windows 7 Beta came out in January, and the problem has occurred on both. My system runs at stock settings.

Question is do you think it’s a problem with my PSU, Motherboard or something else. I have checked all the cables for PSU and case wiring to the motherboard and everything seems to be ok.

Thanks for all your help in advance.

This is my setup

Hiper Type-R PSU
Gigabyte P35 DS4 with F13 Firmware
E6750
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
4gb PC2-6400 OCZ Platinum Rev. 2
Asus 8800gt

Hi, no I haven't, the problem has only started to really bug me tonight, hence the thread. Most of my mates have really crappy PSU's with there Dell or HP computers so can't really use theres, and my daughters Coolermaster PSU is only a 480 watt one so not sure if it would be good enough for my PC.

I've had the Hiper for about 4 years now, it's never once given me cause for concern. I thought about changing it a few times when everyone was saying there's were blowing up, but never got round to doing it.

The 480w should have no problem powering it, especially if you don't stress the gfx/cpu. Even then it probably isn't taking more than 350w.

Scooby, it's ok, I touched wood first, so it won't blow up ;)

Owenb, I'll switch them over at the weekend for a couple of weeks, and see if that clears it up.

Thanks again guys, will start a new thread later for suggestions on new PSU
