Is this a safe thing to do or a fire hazard?

Paranoid's probably a good approche with luck like this

You really have tried everything, very odd problem

I'm not sure what if any differences there might be between nvidia cards and ati that might cause the mainboard to be ok with ati but not nvidia so it does seem as though there may very well be a fault with the nvidia card especially if it does the same in a differen board.

As for getting results with successful return/replacment under warranty comunication is key so that either you can help them replicate a fault or they can help you get it working properly so avoid getting all red in the face despite how annoyed you are. What details do you know about how they tested it? The more information you have the better chance there is of understanding what's going on with this strange fault.

Best of luck ;)

Well they sent an email today saying that they will fully refund me for the card "without testing it" but wont refund the testing fee because they tested it to the manufacturers standards whatever that means and they didnt find a fault. So i've opened a new customer support thread (think this is like my 5th) regarding it and asked them kindly to supply details of what tests they run and if they even bother to try any games on it when they get it back for testing.

I explained that it isnt detected by the motherboard unless the BCLK is at 103mhz and even then it still wont run a game more than 15-30 seconds without failing. I also explained that the card seems to be able to run thing like furmark/kombustor with no problem for up to 30-45 minutes(sometimes will only last 10-15 though) doesnt go over 80c but games just dont work.I reckon this might be why they said its working because it can sometimes run these things for a decent length of time and probobly didnt run games like crysis 2/BF3 on it to replicate the fault i have?

It isnt a windows or driver issue as i've done all that and the card didnt act this way when i first got it so obviously somethings changed......and the only thing that i can possably see changing is the graphics card since virtual every other component has been replaced. CPU and ram pass all the stress tests so thats not an issue either......unless it was the CPU's PCIe express controller thats borked but i just dont see that being the case tbh.

im going to try and get it working again for ****'s and giggles since i cant get playing any games and im bored out of my skull, maybe the god of computers will have mercy on me and fix all errors and give me a break for once lol. Not gonna happen:p

I need a new webcam anyway so i might get one and make a video just to show exactly whats happening and post it up here if my phone doesnt have enough memory to make a video long enough(i doubt it has).

This time i will be testing the card in another machine before i RMA it aswell so i can see with my own eyes this card working in another PC.(gonna cost me 15 quid in taxi fares to do that though)

OMFG????? it works????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*just played crysis 2 there for 20 minutes on it wtf!?!??!?!?!??!

**Going to try BF3 now,im seriously confused,is there a god of computers who has had mercy on me? LOLLOOLOL holy ****

***I spoke too soon, got weird glitches all of a sudden and the games crashing again.........lovely.

****its really hard to get the motherboard to detect the card just like before, everytime i reset the PC i need to set the PCIe graphics adapter to be the main one and the majority of the time thats not even working either. It also shows the card in GPU-Z as being in PCIe 1.1 x8 mode and sometimes its in 2.0 x 8 mode, even if i use the option to load up the moving pattern to get rid of the power saving features it seems the card cant run at x16 mode at all and is stuck at x8........

Thats with the little window open that should force the card to x16 2.0 mode. Still says x8 2.0 :(

***** Its not even running kombustor as long as it used to anymore its crashing within a minute lol.

My thoughts on the cardboard would be to remove it and buy a piece of plyboard about a cm thick and screw it to the outside of the base using short flathead screws which should sit less proud than the mobo standoffs. You could even buy some of them plastic screw covers to cap them off.

hmm i'll look into that sounds like a good idea. i also found this online.

http://www.globalplasticsheeting.com/fire-retardant-plastic-sheeting/

It says its anti static and fire retardant, what i dont know is if it conducts electricity.Im guessing if i bought a roll of that though it would be overkill......maybe i could get myself a small sample somehow thats just enough for my board:)

I was also thinking along the lines of something like that in liquid form like a floor leveling product but neither would really add much i think to rigidity, perhaps you could ask them for a sample to show your builder ;)

I dont think it needs much more regidity im just being really paranoid it only has a small flex to it,one part does kinda pop but it doesnt look like its significant,im just one of these people who thinks its better to be safe than sorry(although i did buy a crappy PSU for this rig when i first built it,a mistake id never make again and shouldnt have made in the first place:o)

OMFG????? it works?????

Nope, it's toying with you :D do the ATi cards work at full x16 2.0 mode?

I guess that's a result for you on the full refund offer :) How much was this testing fee though? I've not heard of that before but it might be in the tearms and conditions or something  I'm not sure what to think on that, we don't charge for testing were I work but then we're not dealing over the internet in high volumes so we don't get asked to do any more than an average of about 2 a week. Half the time the fault turns out to be with some other equipment the customer uses with what ever your testing (so many people just haven't got the first clue about trouble shooting) but that's ok because we can sell them something to replace what ever else it is that's faulty. It can sometimes be a bit time consuming though and if they have a few to do, that's my guess at were they're coming from with it anyways.

Keep us posted ;)
