Hi,

Can someone tell me if the 512mb Nvidia Quadro FX 2500m Graphics Card would be any good to play games on. Type of games i play are CS, BF2, BF2142.

Thanks for your help

J

Doubt it, due to a lot of the features on proper gaming graphics cards may not be in that card since it's built for another purpose (CAD?). Plus, many games probably won't support that card, but that doesn't mean that you couldn't use that card for gaming, you just may run into problems more than using something for more mainstream gaming.

A Quadro card is designed to run professional design apps and not games, it is more expensive and most likely slower than a comparable card designed for gaming.

Can you get it 2nd hand cheaply from someone?

No,

but i can get a laptop with it in and a Intel core 2 duo 7200, with 2gb DDR2 ram 17" 1900x1200 for about £900 which is not bad, and cheaper then others with the 7900gtx in it.

The hardware is identical to the 7900GTX, only difference is it has accelerated CAD functions that are enabled by the quadro drivers.

For £900 that's a steal, assuming nothing is wrong with it. If it's second hand I'd be inclined to suspect there is though...

EDIT: Top-end yes, but this is the mobile version which I think is around £400.

its brand new but comes with a light scratch on it.

Few years ago I ran a Quadro4 750 AGP card in my system. This was basically a Geforce 4 series card but with a few extra CAD features.

Used to play games on it fine as well as run all my CAD stuff.

Basically a Quadro card is almost the same as a normal Geforce card but with a few tweaks here and there for CAD applications.

The tweaks are only enabled by the drivers. The hardware is the same. You can fool a normal 7900GTX to install Quadro drivers and have the accelerated CAD functions.

Only difference is the device ID

I think there have been Quadro cards that had slower memory than the comparable gamer cards though, it's not always excactly the same card.
