Is this cost reasonable?

I've got a quote from a local indy to have a few things done on my E46 330i.

- Front brake disks and pads
- Rear brake disks and pads
- Brake fluid change
- Coolant flush and change
- Replace gearbox oil

The total quote is for £572 including VAT. The labour quoted is for 3.5 hours, is this reasonable?

I just want to make sure I'm not getting ripped off really.

Thanks in advance.

what standard of pads and disk are being used ?

I tend to buy OEM parts off web and take them to the indy and just pay the labour

3.5 hours? Sounds a bit long, even if the hand brake shoes are being changed.

I'd expect that sort of price from a main dealer really.

To be honest I just assumed the back disks were also used for the handbrake.

Not sure on the standard of the pads and disks but from their breakdown they are the same price as from GSF, which may mean they are lower quality I guess?

I'll give a few other independents a call but finding it hard to find recommended ones between Oxfordshire and Bedfordshire.

Main dealer prices:

Coolant £60
Brake fluid £60
Front discs/pads: £239
Rear discs/pads: £199

Total = £560 using genuine BMW parts at a main dealer but excluding the gearbox oil change which they probably wont do.

Fox, are they set prices for main dealers across the country or just estimates?

Also I was going to get the gearbox oil changed purely as a precaution, as during the cold spell the gears got rather notchy.

The brake prices are set in stone throughout the county. The coolant/brake fluid prices are what I pay after negotiating with the chap I deal with in service :p

My gearbox was a bit notchy when very cold as well. It's got 30k miles on it.

I'll probably leave the gearbox oil then.

Will give my 2 local main dealers a call tomorrow to see what they can do.

Is Aylesbury too far out your way? My father has been using this company called BMWorx on his 330d for years. He's always very happy. Might be worth a call even just for a quote? They have an extremely good reputation locally.

Aylesbury would be worth a try as I am in Bicester most of the time and sometimes in Leighton Buzzard. Will get a quote from them.

Didn't get a chance to phone BMW today, will try to ring tomorrow.

Thanks a lot for the recommendation.

BMWorx wanted £560 just for the pads and disks, but were reasonably priced for brake fluid and coolant changes (£45 apiece).

BMW wanted £438 for both pads and disks (as stated by Fox), but were £69 for brake fluid and £145 for coolant change, with an apparent 10% discount. I asked about the handbrake disks being changed and they said they would be £222 on their own.

Found an independent (who looks good from online reviews) called Mark Purcell who has quoted me £415 all in, including handbrake disks. Think I'll probably go for this one, though he said he will use Brembo disks rather than OEM disks. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

I honestly think some Indys are a victim of their own success and charge ridiculous prices.

Ask them to pricematch BMWWorx for the coolant/brake fluid change.

They said they only pricematch for Inspections unfortunately. I was amazed at how expensive the coolant change is at the BMW main dealer!
