Is this external drive any good?

As in the title, I am looking to buy an external drive, is this any good or is there something better that I should be looking at?

Western Digital MyBook Essential 2.0 500GB USB2.0 External Hard Drive (WDH1U5000E)

I have 2 x WD drives in my PC and they are fast and quiet so I am drawn to this model.

I've got one of those, wouldn't know how to crtitcally rate it to be honest, but it's pretty quite and seems pretty fast for a usb connected hdd.

Maybe the only gripe I have is that it doesn't have an on/off switch, you just disconnect it through the windows plug n play system tray utility, but thats the best way to turn it off anyhow.
 
If you dont mind using USB then that will be fine (35MB/s max speed though!). You could make your own external hard drive by buying a WD drive, and putting it in an icy box (with e-SATA for faster speed)?
 
All of my PCs run using Abit NF7S ver 2.0 motherboards and I am happy with them. Is it possible to buy an e-SATA pci card to make use of the e-SATA faster connection speed?

they're all pants compared to any drive with an esata connection, you get the full speed from the drive using an esata connecion ~100 mb/s on some drives

a usb2 connection is about 30 mb/s
 
A work colleagues WD My book died today without warning so I will not be going with one of these. This is the 2nd one of these going wrong in under a year that I have heard about.
