What never fails to amuse me is (despite education, technical knowledge and intelligence) that whenever one of these threads star at least half the people will spew out the blurb spun by the pr departments at specific media companies - and they are companies, it's run solely for profit. The heads of the large firms got over the piracy placebo years ago but left the monkeys working to gain public support for their abuse of the legal system while they sit quietly in the background. Never wonder why you only see a legal firms name while the studios/executive remain anonymous?
What doesn't help is the blissful ignorance the majority of the population like to wallow in. Most of whom simply accept the law, never questioning or even attempting to understand it until they fall victim but by then it's usually too late to curtail what tends to become a rather arduous process. If you applied the legal acceptance of copyright to the internet then everything, right down to this page, is subject to copyright in someone's eyes and thus lawsuit i.e. profit. Again, certain people are quite aware of this and will continue to abuse the system for financial gain until the law is changed (which takes years). The Italian courts have been surprisingly good at handling the various "I didn't consent to person B uploading a video to youtube in which I appear without my consent - must sue immediately" cases over the past year.
Anyway, a take-down notice isn't an accusation, it's a request to remove a file someone's complained about. If it's been sent to you then the file must be coming from your line. Again, something few people realise is, while they are indeed responsible for the use of their line - they are only responsible knowingly - i.e. if someone sends illegal material without you knowledge or consent then you are not legally responsible for it. Even if you were then in order to prosecute they'd need proof, thus a warrant and thus a lot of time and money which simply will not happen. The simple reason such copious volumes of money are thrown at negative piracy pr is because it's to only impossible to prove anyone did anything, the courts couldn't handle millions of people being accused - ever.
Besides, a judge has finally had enough of ACS:LAW and their money scheme. The company's shut, what's left is burning and it's virtually impossible for them to be found not guilty. Then there's the SRA investigation too
Oh and if you think disabling PEX works, then you know very little about things indeed
