Israel-Hamas war - Please do not post videos showing attacks/similar

I imagine most of the strikes will be aimed at know locations, most probably exit inside buildings I'd guess as well.
Absolutely this is the case. The entrances or exits are below buildings...schools, hospitals, residential towers etc.

Right now, Israel does not know where they all are...bear in mind, Gaza is like an iceberg...you can only see what is above the water line - there is an entire network of tunnels under the city.

The buildings are now being bombed to achieve three things:
1) Destroy any factories/weapon caches/CCC housed within them;
2) Limit the entrance and exits from these tunnels; and finally
3) Clear a pathway for the tanks to enter and to limit places they can be fired upon.

Once the ground operation starts, the first priority will be search for tunnel openings. They find one, they start a huge blaze to trace the smoke and find additional entrances/exits using drones or human assets. Then clear these outs. Continue ad infinitum until all the rats have been smoked out. Then destroy the tunnels with a large amount of explosives which is likely to collapse any building above them as the ground has been already weakened.

At this stage, I would imagine the thinking is the hostages are (as good as) dead and the operation will be conducted with that in mind. Neutralising Hamas is the top priority...not certain collecting combatants to swop for hostages is high on the agenda. Recovering Israeli hostages is a bonus

Are they occupying the land as a result of armed conflict. Was there even a sovern against which Isrel could have officially declared war at the time they went in with their military?

Where, on the timeline, are you looking?

 I'm a little concerned, given your views on here, that it seems you are unaware of the ever growing and illegal takeover of Palestinian lands and property by Israelis that has been going on for years:

This is where I am on the timeline: The 6 day war.

At the time of the cessation of hostilities, Israel had seized Syria's Golan Heights, the Jordanian-annexed West Bank (including East Jerusalem), and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula as well as the Egyptian-occupied Gaza Strip.

They took the land during the 6 day war.

Yes it is the same timeline, it’s wasn’t taken for defensive purposes. It was Taken for the farm land, through Israel instigating attacks by Syrians according to the Defense minister who was in charge during the 6 day war. Just more Israeli revisionism.

It is an article of faith among Israelis that the Golan Heights were seized in the 1967 Middle East war to stop Syria from shelling the Israeli settlements down below. The future of the Golan Heights is central to the search for peace in the Middle East, and much of the case against giving the Golan Heights back to Syria rests on the fear of reviving that threat.

But like many another of Israel's founding legends, this one has come under question lately, and from a most surprising quarter: Moshe Dayan, the celebrated commander who, as Defense Minister in 1967, gave the order to conquer the Golan.

The land was taken during war. Interesting that this single individual doesn’t tell us what started the other " percent".

Apparently on the rumour mill there are pictures of beheaded babies doing the rounds now.

Not going to personally check this one out but Jesus wtf if true

I dunno about that, not inclined to look into it too much, but there are several incidents along similar lines where they've carried out atrocities against families including one where they appear to have dragged a family from their car, shot them so as to incapacitate then ran them over multiple times.

IF the baby thing is true, and I really, really hope it isn't, then anything the Israelis have done up to now will pale into insignificance.
I really hate all this twitter 'rumour' stuff though, there's too much of it in the Ukraine thread as it is.

There's deffo gonna be a lot of misinformation going around, and if Hamas did that to the babies, that is unforgivable and barbaric.

Saying that, I wonder how legit this is in terms of translation

Has a similar story of a "good guy" hamas among the bad ones

There's obviously going to be some Hamas with a moral compass, who probably think "this isn't what I signed up for", they are rare though, the vast majority have no problem killing civilians in varying horrific ways for their cause

Could be true (Hamas may well have the capacity for such acts). But could also be
