Been in IT (Enterprise level development, application support, implementation management, etc) for 20 years now. I'd personally suggest looking at the systems side of things (e.g. specialising as an Oracle DBA, Unix admin, Websphere admin, etc). Generally I've found that the money in those positions can be very good indeed.

yikes scary stuff reading all of this.
Bit bored of my career path at moment and keep toying with idea of taking a mcse course.
Was hoping to do a a+ course and get a first line support job.
Then get few years experience under my belt whilst studying for a mcdst qualification.
Makes me wish I'd done this years ago really as I keep reading no experience is bad.
