Italian police write off Gallardo patrol car

One of only two Italian police Lamborghinis has been written off following an accident.

The £150,000 Gallardo super car which was just a year old and complete in blue and white police colours, was involved in a smash after being cut up.

Who cares look at the poor lambo!

For a head on the lambo looks relatively solid still, just body damage from the picture.

Damn at the fuel prices.

Seriously though what is the point of a Lambo cop car? I thought that Police motors had to be reinforced and fully kitted out with equipment before they could be used by the local Constabulary? Or is that why we have Astras and they have Supercars?

On a side note, I hope the people involved got out OK, must be horrible having a bash, especially with such a nice looking motor!

In a way it kinda puts the Hummer H2's in CSI: Miami to shame doesn't it?!

The car was donated by Lamborghini, so it's a PA stunt really. As mentioned in the OP.

It is/was used as an emergency response car . .

The Gallardo police car will be used by the traffic police (Polizia Stradale) during emergency situations on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway in southern Italy. It is equipped with apparatus to transmit and receive information and images in critical situations such as road traffic accidents, fires and other disaster situations. It will also be fitted with the Italian police’s Provida system which records traffic violations and sends images in real-time, and has a direct connection to the police database as well as the Elsag ‘Autodetector’ system for number plate recognition.
