OK, long story short, got a job!

Been unemployed since January 2012 and today I got a temporary job at Argos with a chance of being permanent. I have attended around 6 interviews and applied for 100's of jobs since January, so to actually get the call and to be told I start next week is amazing, I actually feel fantastic!

I'd like to thank a guy or two on here for telling me over and over to never give up.

Rroff/Riich or whoever you are here, Thank you!

Nice one, remember that you'll be compared to your fellow Christmas temps when it comes to the end of January sales so never be late be a friendly individual and always ask if you can help with extra shifts. I was doing solid seven day weeks before and after Christmas as the hours were there. Also I preferred the stock room, you can stand and chat easier when the tickets are low and blast some tunes through the stereo and customer contact is minimal.

not being big headed but how do people manage to go unemployed for over 6 months? i got made redundant and managed in the heart of the resession and managed to get another job within 7 weeks..

just recently been made redundant and came back from holiday 2 weeks ago and already ive had 5 interviews and had to turn 2 job offers down as i'd already accepted the one i really wanted. also got a further 2 interviews im not going to attend now.

seriously its so easy now to apply for jobs, all you need to do is upload a cv to total jobs and everything is just one click, you can apply for about 20 jobs in 5 minutes if you really want it. they even give you a free cv review to tell you if yours in any good or not and what to improve.

I guess you don't work in retail then.

Asda turned me down as, and I quote 'Over qualified for the role'.

no i dont but i actually turned down a job for tesco warehouses, and i applied for asda and its one of the job interviews i will have to efuse now i actually have a decent job again.

ive had an over qualified excuse.. said they knew i wouldnt stay there long as i had too much going for me

Well done. My son has just turned 18 and he is on that treadmill of applying for dozens of temp jobs (due to attending college) in retail and not one interview. Your right you have to keep trying.
Again well done

Why restrict yourself to retail? That's why you went so long without a job.

Good job though. Pun intended.

I have 5 years experience. I can't legally drive and no warehouse experience coupled with very poor qualifications makes retail the only viable option...I also enjoy it...

Adding my congrats here, well done Jaffa. It took me the best part of a year as well when I was made redundant 3 years ago. I had the "over qualified" excuses as well for the menial jobs and a lot of grad schemes were only interested in fresh graduates. The most annoying thing about jobhunting was that the vacancies were either minimum wage or sky high £37k. Nothing for the inbetweeners looking for £15k like I was on before. Like you, I applied for over 100, had 8 interviews, got 1 offer.
