*****Its BACK! - MSI HD 5850 Twin FrozR at Special PRE-ORDER ONLY Price!!*****

Hi,

I'm after a decent affordable DX11 GPU but it needs to be whisper quiet like the rest of my components.

Does anyone know if this card is quiet during intense gaming?

Yes, will be mighty quite at stock and if you reduce the fan speed using CCC or MSI Afterburner. It will be kept cool even at 25%.

Thanks for clarification.

Does the card have an automatic fan setting and is it silent, or do you have to manually set the fan to 25% for it to run quietly during under load?

It will be relatively quiet up to 40% fan speed from my experience. Probably silent up to 30-35% depending on other fans in your case.

The card is set to 55% at default but you can change it in Catalyst Control Centre to set one fixed value or use MSI Afterburner to set your own fan profile that will change depending on the temps.

Thanks again for your input.

Sorry to be a pain but can you please just clarify one last thing for me as I wasn't quite sure from your post.

Does this card have an automatic fan control whereby the fans changes speed to match the cards temperature i.e. high fan speed when the temp is high and low fan speed when the temp is low?

Or is the fan control on the card manual only?

Thanks

It's said to be automatic but from my experience it's stuck on 55% at all times.

That is annoyingly noisy for some and just mildly loud for others but you'd need to create a custom fan profile to have it change with the temps.
