It's the f-stop for Kodak!

Damnit, i'm not that rich :(

If they do declare bankruptcy then i really hope this isn't the last we see of them. From what i've seen of their new emulsions they are absolutely breathtaking. Loose them and we've lost probably the most advanced freely available form of imaging.

Really wish they hadn't tried to jump into the digital market for short term gain. If they'd downsized a bit and pushed the benefits of film instead of following the crows then we might well not be having this conversation at all.

If the film side of the business is profitable, then I'm sure someone will buy that section, but if no one wants it then it obviously isn't and wouldn't have lasted no matter what.

Apparently Kodak's film department is worth upwards of $1bn and is one of their most profitable ventures.

Having trouble thinking of potential buyers, unfortunately. Seems like nobody would when they can get it for a fraction of the price after they've declared bankruptcy. Shame really.

I'm all for Fuji/Ilford Tri-X, Portra and Ektar. :p Kodak's film division managed to make as much money in Jan-Sept in 2011 as they did in the whole of 2010, film is definitely experiencing an increase in popularity.

Wonder what Leica's gonna do with it's M9's now that their sensor manufacturer will be gone...

Someone will pick up the tech division as they make very good stuff so while it maybe made by someone else I'm sure Leica will still have there sensor. Kodak do afterall make some excellent electronics.

Time to stockpile Portra and Tri-X...

The film business makes loads of money still so someone will buy it.

Also interesting that they mentioned the hard time all digital camera makers are having.
I thought since reading the 4s's camera review that the iphone 4s and the like will destroy the compact market, only the Niche larger sensor cam's have a chance imo, at least for a while.
Leica should think about sticking a phone in it's compacts before it's too late.

Looks like Polaroid is ahead of the curve...

To me thats a really interesting option now if they would just make it possible to have two sims for the same account/phone number then I would be able to just pick the most appropriate phone for the day.

Could well be a smart move by polaroid but only time will tell, good to see an old school company thinking outside the box a little.

And in a perhaps not so shocking yet long awaited turn of events:

:D

Not unexpected really. Their film business is their core and wont likely die. Even of Kodak goes bankrupt it is likely someone like Fuji would take over their core film production as before.

I don't think them trying to push photo printers and dry labs will go anywhere. Since when has anyone seriously considered buying a kodak printer?

No one has purchased any of their extensive digital sensing and image processing patents. I wonder if all the other players are secretly hoping that the patents will just disappear with the collapse of Kodak.
