It's too hot :(

Where are you?

I live in northern Atlanta, Georgia, USA and we have temperature swings of 15+ C right now. Today will have a high of 29 C and a low of 16 C, with humidity from 35% to 65%. I (still) sweat buckets in when the summer when I'm outside so I mostly stay inside, where we have the a/c set to a lovely 22.7 C.

Not really, but regardless of whether it is hotter elsewhere the UK is not set up for high heat. Our buildings are generally designed to trap heat and few houses have air con, it makes it quite unbearable even in modest heat.
You always get those people saying where they live is hotter, in a house that's designed to let the heat out and has AC by default like we have Central heating by default.
We feel it simply because it's not our standard weather I spend winter in a T-shirt, I've been abroad in January and it's 20c they walk around like it's the Arctic. While to me it's lovely.

It's ****ing down!
Thunder and lightning to boot!

That's something thats always annoyed me whenever I've complained about the heat, you get people in America saying 'Just get AC? Here buy this in window AC unit', not realising our windows dont open upwards.

UK houses are built for handling winters and fare badly during any summer heatwave.

Yeh. I would love AC at times like this as our house is silly hot in the heat (new build, only a couple of years old). However, it's fairly big outlay for just a few weeks of the year.

I guess if our climate does get warmer and 25 degrees plus becomes the norm for a third of the year then it might be worth considering..

Did your house come with heat reflecting windows?

I'm honestly not even sure mine work. Keeping blinds / curtains shut and windows open is meant to help, but then outside noise ruins my sleep.

Creeping towards me now. Hope there's a lot of lightning. I remember filming storm in 2016 I think it was in Dover, had a LOT of lightning over a very short period.

We use ours for a good 3 months or so of the year in the hottest rooms, probably more. It can also provide some pretty rapid heat in the winter. Finally getting round to adding it to my gaming room which is too hot all year round. If we stay in this house for a few years it’ll be well worth it. Every summer seems to be getting hotter and hotter. I hate the heat, so if it saves me one sleepless night then for me it’s paid for itself.

Tipping it down with rain currently.
