itunes monitor movement of files?

Ive just moved a mp3 file from one folder to another one, i thought i would have had to add to library the new location but i dont, so itunes monitor where the file is and changes the path itself?

I didn't think it does monitor the file locations, as I have had it complain of missing files before. Are you sure it isn't copying all files you add to the library to it's own folder? I don't have iTunes to hand at work, so can't remember where the option is, but thats a possibility. I prefer itunes to do that actually, keeps all the music nicely organised.

Yeah it definitely monitors the file location, as I moved an album from the iTunes Music Folder to somewhere outside it (for random organizational reasons

) and it automatically followed the files

yeh i just tested it too and i moved numerous files into my music folder from somewhere else and the file still played from library.
i dont have copy my music to itunes folder ticked neither.

Cool! Never realised it did that. Like I said, I have had mine complain about missing files when they have been moved before. Can't remember what version that was though...

Wow, I never knew iTune does that - can move my music into an external HDD and no need to recreate the library! Woohoo!
