I've lost my northern accent. Leicester is to blame.

It's not the accents that's the problem, it's the people. To the people who are saying they've "lost" their accent, what's really happened is that you've learnt to speak properly.

I'm from Liverpool, and there are actually a few different "Scouse" accents. The one you describe tends to be from the cave dwellers here. I make an effort to try to pronounce things properly, so a lot of the time people don't even realise I'm from Liverpool.

Omitting the "to" seems to be a Midlands thing to me, well from experience anyway. It's also a crime to say "Tescos" there is no "s". :p

You can speak "properly" with an accent what you are describing is a dialect which is a totally different thing:) The queen speaks with an accent but she speaks correctly (most of the time:) )
 
Oh god, he was in this thread too...

Anyways, since moving to London I'm getting more of a London accent every day... I used to sound quite posh apparently...

He sure gets around, he's probably one of the most unpleasant people I've spoken to on this forum, got some growing up to do methinks...
