I would tend to think for gamers and casual PC users they would see more benefit from having Ram with lower latencies rather then a faster clock rate.

With Sandy Bridge lower latencies make virtually no difference.

If there's any benefit to be gained it's from using faster RAM and even then it's quite a small benefit.
